Rut Rescue 101 (Eat. Live. Be. WEEK 6)

It happens to the best of us. We get in an unhealthy eating rut. For me, it usually starts with a VERY large bag of tortilla chips. Or a VERY dark piece of chocolate.

Before I know it, I'm eating too much, too often.

The only thing that works for me is stopping cold turkey. Yes, I do allow myself to indulge in the things I enjoy. I pride myself on *usually* being able to keep it in check. But when I can't/don't/won't, the best way to get out of the rut is to avoid the offender completely.

As painful as it is, I stay away from tortillas or dark chocolate for a full week. When the week is up, I find I can go back to it in moderation.

That's my strategy! What's yours?

  1. That works for me too! I just gave up sugar and flour for ten days because I was overdoing it. It makes me appreciate them more and I'm happier with less.

  2. I can't say I stop for a week, but I do make sure the things I crave like that are not easy to get to it...if it's not in the house, I won't be as likely to crave it!

  3. You are do much stronger than I am. I think cold turkey would make me want it more.

  4. My strategy is to stop eating after dinner. I enforce a 12 hour fast on my body (7pm to 7am) which for one thing eliminates most of the unhealthy snacking since I was doing it at night, and also seems to jump start my metabolism and energy level. I do it for a week or two, then I am able to go back to normal eating.

  5. Great suggestion. I usually tell myself I can have a set amount of junk food each week. It doesn't matter whether I eat it all in one sitting or spread out. When I'm done, I'm done.

  6. I do the same thing!!! Right now I cannot stay away from CheezIts...yucky right? Sometimes I think if I ate the whole box it would be over! But maybe I would just need another box... Sigh...

  7. I avoid buying a lot of things (tortilla chips, cookies, chips, French bread) for similar reasons -- Once I start, I lose my moderation efforts. Yay for having a system to deal with it!

  8. Super strategies guys! Thanks for stopping by.
Dani - love the 'no late night snacking' idea. That works well for me, too.
Rochel - love your strategy of setting a weekly quota.
Sarah - definitely avoiding buying the stuff altogether is the best bet! My problem is that my kids would rebel if I didn't bring some junk into the house... :)
